Always a warm welcome
We always receive a warm welcome from the management and residents of the Hawthorns Retirement Complex in Braintree when we play for them at one end of their dining room. Our most recent visit on Sunday 23rd March 2025 was no exception. We were delighted to have used the opportunity to break in six new members at the concert and the feedback we have received afterwards is superb. One new player said, I thoroughly enjoyed playing in the concert, my first since leaving secondary school over 30 years ago. Another said, It was such a joy to play in my first concert. I feel so well supported by the other cellists and the non-judgemental approach from everyone connected with the orchestra is wonderful and has helped to boost my confidence.
The concert was entitled Comforting Classics with a mix of light, classical music with solos from various corners of the Orchestra. A record 43 players performed at the concert under the ever-watchful baton of Ron Bewers and it was held to raise funds for the Marie Curie Nurses. It was great to see Molly who is now resident at the Hawthorns having retired from the Orchestra last year. I think the rest of us can't wait to move in.
